We have synthesized CPEs (Conjugated Polyelectrolytes) with introduced anionic, cationic, and zwitterionic side chains and compared them with neutral polymer that have substituted OEG and normal alkyl side chains. We investigated the electrochemical doping behavior of these materials in both aqueous solution and solid state using NaCl and ion gel (based on EMIM+TFSI‑). The different side chains resulted in variations in solubility and self-doping effects, leading to distinct behaviors. In UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, we observed varying (bi)polaron formation rates depending on the electrolytes and side chains. Additionally, we will compare the electrochemical performance of the CPEs in Organic Electrochemical Transistors (OECTs). The redox behavior and transient response time of the film will vary based on the ionic side chain. This study will suggest the effect of ionic side chains on the electrochemical doping and provide an effective design direction for OECT materials.
