Hair dye shampoos have been developed by applying the natural anti-oxidative principle of the browning phenomenon found in fruits and plants, using plant-derived polyphenolic compounds. In this study, we explored the use of readily available polyphenolic molecules for the formation of oxidation-based coating and hair dyeing. For this purpose, pyrogallol (PG) can be a suitable compound due to its high oxidative power and biocompatibility. Using amine cross-linkers, the oxidation-induced PG coating was optimized for hair dyeing. The optimal amine molecule and the molar ratio between amine and PG were determined to achieve the highest coating efficiency and dark brown color. The optimal conditions can be applied to hair dyeing. We believe that this study provides valuable insights into polyphenol-based chemistry and its practical applicability in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
