Hydrogels are a unique class of polymeric materials that exhibit high surface area, flexibility, controllable mechanical strength, and excellent biocompatibility. However, the adhesive behavior and poor mechanical properties of hydrogels is severely weakened by the large amount of water. To overcome this problem, we designed polyacrylamide(PAAm)-DOPA inspired copolymer with various cations(Ca2+, Fe3+, V5+) by the mussel adhesive mechanism. The prepared IPN-structured hydrogels were evaluated for mechanical properties and characterized. The results showed that the polyacrylamide(PAAm)-DOPA inspired copolymers based IPN hydrogels were improved the mechanical properties and adhesiveness on the various substrates. Moreover, IPN-structured hydrogel had a good biocompatibility in vitro. These results suggest that IPN-structured hydrogel may potential application in tissue adhesive and bio medical applications.
