Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) is one of the most notable materials in the field of biomaterials due to its excellent biocompatibility and non-toxicity. However, it has limitations in its use as a biomaterial due to insufficient mechanical properties and the production of acidic by-products during degradation. In this study, the PLLA composites were combined with stereocomplex microparticles (SC) and surface-modified magnesium hydroxide (MH) nanoparticles with oligolactide. The SC formed by enantiomers PLLA and Poly(D-lactic acid) (PDLA) improved mechanical properties. Inflammation response by acidic degradation products decreased by pH neutralization effect of basic surface-modified MH. In addition, the PLLA composites displayed antibacterial effects and biocompatibility. This technology is expected to have a high potential for developing PLLA composites for various biomedical materials, such as biodegradable vascular scaffold (BVS).
