Wearable and flexible pressure sensors are applicable to a variety of fields, including human motion detection. To cover the entire range of human movement, they should be able to detect a wide range of pressures, from low to high, with a high degree of sensitivity. The ionogel-based pressure sensors, a deformable and stretchable material, measure the capacitance caused by an electric double layer (EDL) at the electrode - electrolyte interface, and the capacitance also increases as the contact area increases. In this work, TPU-based ionogels were fabricated, and ion mobility was enhanced using ionic liquid complexes, comprised of ionic liquid (IL), ion salt, and glyme as a solvent for ion salt. Using the prepared ionogels, ionogel-based pressure sensors were also fabricated by sandwiching the ionogel between two cotton fabrics. An electrode made of conductive knit tape was used to maximize the change in contact area between the electrode and ionogel, resulting in high sensitivity and a wide range of sensing.
