With the rise of the microplastic pollution problem, capturing microplastics in aquatic ecosystems, such as seas and rivers, has become a pressing area of research. In this study, we fabricated a 3D printed structure coated with pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). We observed rapid absorption of microplastics to the PSA layer within 5 minutes. The versatility of 3D printing facilitated precise control over the geometry of the structures, thereby optimizing microplastic removal performance. We demonstrated that the structures with the same surface exhibit different microplastic absorption performance depending on morphology of the structures. To enhance the adsorption capacity of the 3D printed structures, a porogen was introduced during the printing process, leading to the creation of porous structures. These porous surfaces, in addition to the mesh structure of the 3D prints, enabled the efficient adsorption of plastics across a broad size range, encompassing microplastics to nanoplastics.
