Natural biopolymer-based hydrogels have poor mechanical stability and low-water absorption capability, which limits their applications. However, existing hydrogel formulation techniques rely on the incorporation of synthetic polymer precursor or crosslinker to meet desired clinical functions. In this work, we report natural polymer-based biodegradable hydrogel preparation. In addition, we enhanced the stability of natural polymer-based hydrogels via the synergy of annealing and hydrogelification techniques with robust mechanical properties; reversible swelling property, improved stretchability (up to 450%), and higher-water adsorption ability (50-90 g g-1). Finally, we demonstrated the dry spinning of hydrogel fibers, which provides a pathway to create advanced microfibers as seed germination scaffolds, which boost up plant growth.
