Influences of Surface-Modified Barium Titanate Nanoparticle on the Piezoelectric Performance of Anionic Waterborne Polyurethane Films

Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is regarded as an environmentally friendly material due to its low VOC emissions, durability, and excellent adhesion properties, and is suitable for a variety of applications, including coatings, adhesives, and films. To broaden the potential applications of WPU, in this study, we investigated the piezoelectric properties of WPU-based nanocomposite films, which were reinforced with barium titanate (BT). To achieve a high output value, the surface of BT particles was modified to prevent aggregation. The films were prepared by blending synthesized anionic WPU with modified BT nanoparticles. We chose low-molecular-weight modifiers, 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and phthalic acid (PA). To assess the structure and morphology of the nanocomposites, we employed FT-IR, XRD, and SEM techniques. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the materials were monitored using a graphical sampling multimeter equipped with a network analyzer and a pushing machine.
