Fiber-Shaped Supercapacitors with Superior Length Capacitance Utilizing Polyaniline-Integrated Carbon Nanotube Fiber

As the demand for wearable devices surges, there is a rising interest in fiber-shaped supercapacitors(FSSCs) that can easily integrated into textiles. Carbon nanotube fiber(CNTF) is considered the most suitable electrode material for FSSCs, owing to its excellent electrical conductivity and exceptional flexiblilty. In this study, we utilized cheap and thick industrial scale CNTFs (~10 tex). It is known that as CNTF becomes thicker, voids and impurities tend to increase, leading to a degradation of electrical properties. However, we effectively utilized these voids by incorporating the active material (i.e., polyaniline) and employed acid doping and sonication to enhance conductivity and remove impurities. As a result, we successfully fabricated a fiber-shaped electrode using a single strand of CNTF, achieveing a remarkable length capaictance of 96.5 mF/cm. This value implies that producing 1 F of capacitance requires only a 10 cm of fiber.
