Optically clear adhesive films are commonly applied between the two layers of a display panel, which improves the contrast ratio by matching the refractive index. However, during the process of bonding the adhesive thin film to the panel, there is a high possibility of occurrence of defects of thin film. Especially, the reuse of valuable components from a flexible display device is highly important for cost reduction and recycling. Here, we report an effective and scalable methodology for facile separation of transparent adhesive thin films using the cavitation phenomenon of thermo-responsive nanocapsules. The thermo-responsive nanocapsule, which generates gas by heat, induces large-area thin film separation by generating bubbles. Interfacial adhesion of films has been controlled by optimizing a heat treatment time, direction and coating thickness. This study provides an effective strategy for the recovery and recycling of valuable materials without surface damage in various industries.
