This study was carried out a series of monocyanated quinoxaline(Qx)-based donor-acceptor (D-A) type copolymers by using structural modifications to attain promising p-type polymers for photovoltaic applications. Introducing alkoxy side chain on the meta-position and electron-withdrawing moieties such as fluorine and chlorine atoms on the para-position to the phenyl group of the Qx unit to control the electronic properties for the resulting polymers. In addition, incorporating additional Cl atoms on the two thienyl groups on the electron donating bithienyl-dithieno[2,3-d;2′,3′-d′]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene (DTBDT) units which has larger conjugated plane to investigate effect of the functional substituent for the parameter of photovoltaic applications. Therefore, this study can provide valuable insight into the structural-property correlations of conjugated polymers for developing p-type donors to improve the photovoltaic performance of organic solar cells.
