Vertical Structure Electrochemical Transistor based on Au/PEDOT:PSS Hybrid Electrode

Herein, we propose vertically structured electrochemical transistors (v-OECTs) utilizing ultra-thin hybrid electrodes that are fabricated by depositing Au on poly(3,4 ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) thin films. Electrochemical properties and Au thickness-dependent surface analysis of the hybrid electrodes were conducted for the optimization of v-OECT operation characteristics. Also, v-OECTs are realized with minimal channel dimensions and exhibit a fast transient response time of 51 ms through the unique characteristics of hybrid electrodes. Finally, the v-OECT shows a high transconductance of more than 8 mS and achieved stable on/off operation of more than 4000 minutes.
