A lightweight electromagnetic interference shielding (EMIS) thin film with enhanced mechanical and electrical properties and outstanding folding reliability is prepared utilizing the concept of the supramolecular brick-and-mortar structure. The EMIS thin film exhibits well-ordered and aligned conductive multi-layers, accomplished by complexing the ionic, electrostatic, and hydrogen bonding interactions in the brick-and-mortar components. As a result, the thin film with a thickness of 100 μm demonstrates improved mechanical properties, excellent electrical conductivity of 687.3 S/m, and EMIS performance close to 30 dB in the X-band range. Notably, it exhibits the best-recorded folding reliability over 200,000 folding/unfolding cycles, outperforming previously reported foldable EMIS films. These results are attributed to unique supramolecular complex interactions in the multi-layered conductive nanostructure. A mechanism related to these phenomena is also proposed in this study.
