The characteristics and properties of polymers are significantly influenced by their topology. Among various polymer topologies, star polymers, which have linear chains extending from a central core, exhibit unique features such as low intrinsic viscosity, high shear stability, and the ability to introduce multiple functional groups, attracting significant attention. However, the current methods for synthesizing star polymers have limitations in controlling the molecular weight and linear chain arm density. Our research group previously conducted preliminary studies on a novel synthetic method based on ring-opening metathesis polymerization(ROMP) to address this issue. Through this method, we synthesized star polymers with well-controlled molecular weights and up to 40 linear chain arms per polymer under in-situ conditions. Based on our preliminary results, we herein present methods for controlling the star copolymers' size and composition by introducing polymers with different contour lengths into the linear chain arms.
