Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs), a mixture of filler material and polymer matrix, are suggested to overcome the trade-off between permeability and selectivity. Metal-organic frameworks are promising filler materials due to their high surface area and precise pore size. We synthesized zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 with two different aspect ratios to incorporate into 6FDA-DAM (PI): nanoplates (NZIF-8) and isotropic particles (IZIF-8). High-loading NZIF-8/PI MMM showed excellent C3H6/C3H8 separation performance with C3H6 permeability of 164 Barrer and selectivity of 33.4. H2 extraction property was further examined with H2/C3H6/C3H8 separation to propose applying it to the propane dehydrogenation process. Under various operating conditions, NZIF-8/PI showed fast H2 permeability, excellent separation factor, and superior mechanical properties.
