Synthesis of pH-sensitive PEG Hydrogel by Thiol-ene Click reaction

PEG hydrogels, which have the advantage of being tunable with various functional groups, can change their physical properties in response to the pH environment. In addition, since the release condition of the drug encapsulated in the hydrogel changes according to the pH, research on this is necessary and is being conducted.
Among the click reactions that are attracting attention, we photopolymerized PEG hydrogels using the well-known thiol-ene reaction and investigated the kinetic properties by forming various network densities. In addition, changes according to pH conditions were observed. To study the drug delivery behavior, two substances with different isoelectric points, lysozyme and fluorescein, were encapsulated in a PEG hydrogel. We will provide an overview of the current state of the art in PEG hydrogel research and discuss our latest findings on the relationship between crosslinking density and drug release.
