PEKK, one of the super engineering plastics, can replace metal and also has the advantage of being lighter than metal. It is suitable as a seal ring for automobile brake oil. Frictional heat is continuously generated while operating, the oil rises to over 200 ℃. Another application is a thrust washer for automobiles. When in use, the thrust washer needs to be cleaned periodically, and the temperature of the washing oil is over 200 ℃. Most engineering plastics have a melting point of 220 ℃. These polymers dissolve at those case. PEKK is suitable because it has a melting point of 360 ℃
Tribological characteristics are important for use as parts for transportation equipment. When the tribological characteristics are good, the life of the parts is extended. This study deals with the mechanical properties and frictional wear characteristics according to MI. Mechanical characteristics were measured by UTM. The friction and wear characteristics were measured by Pin-on-Disk wear test.
