MXene/CNTs film for multifunctional EMI shielding

The development of multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with desirable additional functionalities is of high interest for highly integrated electronic devices. In this study, a bi-layered CNTs/MXene Janus film was fabricated by using the vacuum-assisted filtration method, with varied MXene content. The resulting film, with CNTs/MXene in a 1:1 wt.% ratio, exhibited high electrical conductivity of 4200 S/cm and EMI shielding of 67 dB at a thickness of 15 µm. Furthermore. The joule heating capability of the hybrid film could be tuned by controlling the constant MXene loading and applied voltage. Importantly, the film also demonstrated excellent tensile strength and flexibility with good retention in harsh environmental conditions. The combination of EMI shielding with joule heating properties can be used in various applications, including aerospace, military, automotive, medical, and IoT (Internet of Things) etc.
