MXene, a new 2D material with a hydrophilic surface, high metallic conductivity, and rich surface chemistry, has attracted a lot of interest for uses in energy storage, sensor, electromagnetic interference shielding, and digital devices. The oxidative degradation behavior of MXene films has not been discussed, despite the possibility that the chemical instability of MXene will prevent their usage in applications requiring ambient conditions and protracted operation. Here, we have chosen the phosphonic acid molecule having long alkyl chain as a model compound for assessing the stability and change in surface properties after functionalization. No prominent oxidation was observed even after 70 days. Dispersion stability was also monitored in different solvents including Ethanol, Acetone, Dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and Acetonitrile. Good dispersions with long storage time were obtained in the solvents mentioned above and oxidation stability was also improved.
