Sustainable Polyolefins Development Toward a Better Future

As global climate crisis and resource depletion have recently emerged, many petrochemical companies have been addressed increasingly with the sustainability management. In line with these global trends, many leading companies including the governments are changing their business strategies with social contribution and transparent management which are so essential for sustainable growth. Actually, we have commercialized polyolefin-based elastomer in solution process using our own metallocene technology since 2008, but our polyolefin products should be changed to lead future market needs. Many customers are requesting sustainability which is inevitable paradigm in our polymer industry. In this lecture, I would like to talk about how LG Chem manages important issues such as global plastic regulations and carbon neutral growth in the petrochemical industry. In particular, polyolefin products which account for the largest proportion in the synthetic polymers are mainly used for packaging and construction materials, but we should solve global environment problems through recycling of packaging materials or reduction of weigh materials. In addition, LG Chem also plans to contribute to carbon neutrality through the development of energy materials such as solar power in the polyolefin field. I would like to talk about the direction of the development of polyolefin materials with a focus on related contents.
