Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) (P(3HB-co-4HB)) is an alternative to petroleum-based polymers, allowing the production of sustainable polymers using bio-based materials. However, renewable polymers typically exhibit low thermal properties, and polymer blending offers a useful approach to overcome these limitations of neat polymers. This study confirmed that P(3HB-co-4HB) undergoes a small amount of thermal degradation at processing temperatures of 180°C or higher, which subsequently affects its melting processing properties. To mitigate the thermal degradation observed during polymer blending, phenol-based and phosphite-based antioxidants were added to the PA11/P(3HB-co-4HB) blend. As a result, it can be observed that the addition of these antioxidants in the polymer blend can minimize the changes in melting processing properties due to thermal degradation.
