The palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction is an industrially significant reaction. Because it has high yield and selectivity in C-C bond formation reactions. Suzuki cross-coupling reaction is mainly conducted using homogeneous catalytic systems, providing high selectivity and efficiency. However, separation of homogeneous catalysts from the reaction media requires the tedious steps and it has low efficiency. For this reason, many attempts have been devoted to developing various organic polymer and inorganic supports to immobilize Pd catalysts. In this study, we attempted to immobilize the catalyst particles on a polyimide sponge dedicated to heterogenous catalyst. Aromatic polyimides (PIs) are known to have high thermal and mechanical properties and good chemical resistance. Sponge-type catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction media and reusable by simple washing and drying.
