We applied hybrids of nanocarbons (MWCNTs/CB) to improve the performance of the semiconductor layers for extra-high voltage (EHV) cables. The dispersity of the MWCNTs directly affects the performance of the semiconductor compound. If the MWCNTs are poorly dispersed, the roughness of the surface causes electric field concentration, and damages may accrue such as insulation breakdown. To improve the dispersion of MWCNTs in the semiconductor compounds, PMMA-b-PDMAEMA (pyrene) were attached to the surface of MWCNTs by noncovalent functionalization. This functionalized block copolymer effectively improved the composite's dispersity and performance. This improvement was confirmed through the analysis of the electrical conductivity and volume resistance of the semiconductor compound. To analyze the insulation resistance of the cable, the insulation breakdown strength was measured by making a double interface with the insulator and semiconductor, and the Weibull plot was performed with this data. Through the shape parameter and scale parameter of this Weibull plot, we evaluated the reliability.
