This study investigates the utilization of ion selective membrane capacitive deionization (CDI) technology to effectively remove zinc acetate catalyst generated during the chemical recycling process of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is one of the most abundantly produced plastics in waste streams, and conventional recycling methods may leave traces of zinc acetate catalyst, which can lead to environmental pollution and alter the physical properties of the recycled PET.
In this research, CDI technology was applied to remove the zinc acetate catalyst during the chemical recycling of PET. CDI is an electrochemical technique known for efficiently removing ions using charged surfaces. Experimental results demonstrate that CDI can effectively eliminate zinc acetate catalyst with high efficiency.
This novel approach holds promise in addressing the environmental concerns arising from the chemical recycling of PET and contributes to the sustainability of the PET recycling industry.
