 NIR-Sensing Ambipolar Organic Phototransistors with Conjugated Terpolymer Sensing Channel Layers

Organic phototransistors (OPTRs) have been considered attractive optical sensors due to their advantages including low-temperature processes and flexible modules. In particular, near-infrared (NIR)-sensing OPTRs are expected to be a promising detector for LiDAR systems that are of crucial importance in growing mobility technologies such as autonomous cars, drones, flying taxis (UAM), etc. Although various types of conjugated polymers have been reported for NIR-OPTRs, further invention of new conjugated polymer materials is required for successful commercialization. However, to date, most NIR-OPTRs have been reported to operate in p-channel modes. To maximize the adaptability in systems, both p-channel and n-channel operations can be one of the brilliant approaches in miniaturized detection systems. In this presentation, we demonstrate ambipolar OPTRs, which can detect NIR light, by employing newly synthesized conjugated terpolymers.
