Organic cathode materials have attracted marvelous attention for Li-ion batteries due to their structure diversity, sustainability, and high theoretical capacities. However, poor conductivities, low discharge voltages, and solubility in electrolytes of traditional organic materials have restricted their Li-ion battery application. We synthesized a new conjugated carbonyl-based linear copolymer PTO-Ph-BQ via Suzuki-Miyaura coupling. As a control, a conjugated carbonyl-based polymer BQ-Ph was polymerized in the same manner. The chemical structures were characterized by 1H-NMR, solid-state 13C NMR, and FT-IR. The synthesized copolymers PTO-Ph-BQ had extended redox active sites and conjugated structures. The copolymer structure improved electron delocalization, resulting in good electrical conductivity, high theoretical capacity, and elevated voltage plateau compared with control polymer.
