Layered K0.4V2O5 cathode for potassium ion batteries have been widely researched due to their high reversible capacity. [1] Due to sluggish K+ kinetics, insertion/extraction was very hard and structural instability is high, resulting in a rapid capacity fading and degradation of the cell performance. Herein, Sr2+ substitution in the K layer is used to improve the ion mobility and structural stability of K0.4V2O5 cathode. The vacancy generated from Sr2+ substitution improved K+ mobility during cycling. The electrochemically inactive Sr2+ acts as a pillar in the structure, which enhances structural stability at high voltage region. Advanced characterizations were performed to identify the improved electrochemical properties.
