Organic thermoelectric generators (OTEGs) based on highly-doped conjugated polymers have received much attention as an independent energy harvesting solution in the era of the IoT. OTEGs are attached directly to a surface of heat sources and transform waste-heat energy into electricity. Several attempts have been made to achieve high-efficiency solution-processed OTEG devices, but challenges remain in improving the thermoelectric performance and the solution processability for device fabrication. Especially, doping is essential for controlling the charge carrier concentration and governing charge transport physics, leading to optimized thermoelectric performances. In this talk, I will discuss various molecular design and doping strategies for improving thermoelectric efficiency and solution processability of conjugated polymers toward flexible and printed OTEGs. The devised strategies would be a stepping stone for the demonstration of waste-heat powered soft electronics.
