For medical devices made of polymers, sterilization can affect the properties of the medical device. Therefore, a study was conducted to evaluate the change in characteristics of polymeric medical devices according to sterilization. The characteristics before and after gamma and ethylene oxide(EO) sterilization of medical devices(absorbable periodontal tissue regeneration barrier membranes) manufactured by 3D printer using polycaprolactone were compared. As a result, the tensile load and molecular weight of the gamma-sterilized medical device decreased by 7.4% and 3.0%, respectively, compared to the EO sterilized medical device. It was confirmed that gamma sterilization affects the mechanical performance and decomposition characteristics of polymeric medical devices. Consequently, polymeric medical devices should consider the change in characteristics due to sterilization, and especially in the case of gamma sterilization, this should be reflected in the design and development.
