Recently, aluminum nitride (AlN) has attracted much interest in the electronics because of its outstanding properties, such as high thermal conductivity, high electrical insulation, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. However, AlN is easily hydrolyzed to produce aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3), limiting the utilization of AlN. Although many researchers performed inorganic passivation into AlN surface to improve hydrolysis rsistance, inorganic materials remain after calcination process, which is attributed to impurity of AlN affecting its properties. In this work, AlN passivation was performed by surface modification using polycarbonate via solution process. Diamine is utilized to extend the thickness of the coating layer. Morphology, crystallography and thermal stability of AlN particles before and after hydrolysis were investigated.
