Anisotropic Liquid Crystal Polymer Film with High Thermal Conductivity

For the development of advanced thermal conducting materials which can manage the heat from electronic devices, anisotropic liquid crystal polymer (ALCP) film was fabricated from the newly designed and synthesized mesogenic monomer. Through thermal and structural analyses, it was confirmed that the synthesized monomer exhibited liquid crystal phase in the wide range of temperature. To fabricate uniaxially orientated ALCP film, monomer was photo-polymerized at liquid crystal state under the magnetic field. Due to the high atomic lattice structure from the molecule and alignment of the mesogenic domain resulting straight phonon-transfer pathway, ALCP film had outstanding thermal conductivity with 2.5 W/m K. Based on these results, ALCP film with high thermal conductivity can be applied to thermal conducting material for the management of the electronic devices.
