내용
This study developed a new method to activate two methoxyl groups of syringaldehyde lignin model compounds. A nickel catalyst has been employed to facilitate the substitution of Ar-OCH3 with Ar-CH2-SiMe3. Moreover, to demonstrate the utility of activated product, a self-condensation reaction to produce Ar-CH2-CH2-Ar with KOH as a catalyst has been employed as well. The synthesis reaction was run under nitrogen-flushed for 2 h at 80 °C. Result shows that specific chemical groups such as OH and CH3 decreased as proved by the reduction of their intensities in FT-IR spectra, indicating that substitution reaction has successfully occurred. The thermal behavior of DSC showed an endothermic peak and an exothermic peak and supported by presence of a SiMe3 signal around 0 ppm in the 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. In addition, a strong exothermic peak has been found in the DSC thermogram, indicating a self-condensation reaction.
