The hardest part of developing transparent organic solar cells (T-OSCs) for building-integrated photovoltaic applications for future smart solar windows to control indoor brightness, preserve a person's circadian rhythm, and have a positive emotional impact by allowing observation of the outside has been tailoring the average photopic transmittance (APT). However, there is a trade-off between the APT and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of T-OSCs, primarily because there are no very transparent and conductive top electrodes, a crucial component influencing the PCE and APT. Here, we present a novel tungsten oxide (WO3)-based multilayer that functions as a very transparent top electrode that has a high PCE and outstanding APT for T-OSCs. We achieve the best-performing T-OSC with a PCE of 7.0% and a full device APT of 46.7%, resulting in a high light utilization efficiency (LUE) of 3.27%, which is superior to that of T-OSCs based on the same photoactive system.
