Highly Efficient NIR Optoelectronic Devices using Organic Semiconductors

Recently, much attention has been drawn to the application of near-infrared (NIR) absorbing organic semiconductors. Among them, semi-transparent organic photovoltaics (ST-OPVs) can be used in building-integrated photovoltaics and smart window technologies, and NIR organic photodetectors (OPDs) also show potential as sensors that can be used in various fields such as medical, autonomous driving. As such, NIR organic optoelectronic devices are expected to be in great demand in various next-generation application fields. For this reason, various NIR organic materials are being developed, but there are still many challenges to be solved in order to develop NIR devices such as ST-OPVs and NIR OPDs that require high efficiency and high sensitivity, respectively. Herein, we present the results of high-efficiency ST-OPV and high-sensitivity NIR OPD based on the NIR organic semiconductor materials we developed and suggest the future direction of these NIR organic optoelectronic devices.
