In this study, ionic cross-linked polymer was prepared by blending a chloromethylated poly(phenylene oxide) (Cl-PPO) and a quaternized aliphatic polymer in accordance with the mole ratio for improving the their electrochemical performance and physicochemical stability. The fabricated blending membrane exhibited stable thermal properties and physical stability through ionic cross-linking between polymer chains and quaternary ammonium groups, and exhibited excellent electrochemical performance by introducing sufficient ionic groups. In addition, the fabricated blending membrane showed a high power density compared to commercial Fumion FAA-3-PK-30 membrane and pristine membrane (quaternized -PPO)) under H2/O2. Furthermore, the blending membrane showed very suitable long-term durability under the high alkaline conditions compared to pristine membrane. Therefore, the prepared blending membrane has been proven to be very promising as a polymer electrolyte membrane for alkaline fuel cells.
