In the field of the insulation of materials, polysilsesquioxane is a suitable material for enhancing thermal insulation by increasing the intramolecular void space. There is a method to increase the void space in the polysilsesquioxane matrix in order to improve thermal insulation. In this study, oligomethylsilsesquioxane (MSQ-OH) is synthesized through a sol-gel reaction of triethoxymethylsilane. The obtained MSQ-OH is then crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) to obtain a glycidyl-bridged polysilsesquioxane (GBPS) film with intramolecular voids. To analyze the difference in intramolecular void space based on the length of the crosslinked chain, glycerol diglycidyl ether and MSQ-OH are crosslinked to create a glycerol-bridged polysilsesquioxane (glycerol-BPS) film with a shorter chain length than BDGE. The structural and chemical properties of each polysilsesquioxane film are measured using various analysis methods.
