Shape-memory materials maintain their arbitrary shape and are restored to their original shape by external stimuli such as light, thermal, electrical, and magnetic. Shape memory polyurethane (SMPUs) consisting of a soft and a hard segment present, the ability to change its shape above the transition temperature (Ttrans). The used polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is composed of a Si-O-Si cage structure with seven non-reactive isobutyl groups and one organic functional amine group. In this study, POSS-DGEBA was synthesized by reacting Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) with the amine group of POSS using POSS:DGEBA mole ratios of 1:2 and 2:1. PU prepolymer was synthesized by poly(ethylene glycol) and 4,4’-Methylene bis(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI). The hybrid polyurethane was synthesized using PU prepolymer, chain extenders, and POSS-DGEBA. The hybrid polyurethane was analyzed by FT-IR, DSC and TGA.
