Herein high-shear pressure-sensitive adhesives were newly designed by incorporating poly(benzyl ether) (PBE) into a polynorbornene matrix. The self-immolative PBE, a key functional macro-monomer which can be synthesized via anionic polymerization, not only provides multiple reversible cross-linking points but completely depolymerizes in response to a specific stimulus. The addition of small amounts of the PBE into the matrix caused the desired cross-linked adhesives that are thermally reusable as well as de-bondable triggered upon exposure to the signal.
