Hydrophobic surface coating is an important technology with wide-ranging applications in both industrial and daily life. Its primary function is to control surface properties and provide surface protection. This technology not only makes surface waterproof but also imparts additional functional benefits like self-cleaning, corrosion resistance, and contamination prevention. Consequently, it enhances the durability of various materials used in diverse applications. We focused on modifying hydrophilic silica nanoparticles to hydrophobic by a solvent-free vapor deposition. We developed an spray coating formulation by combining silica with a polymer binder, poly(methyl methacrylate), which demonstrated resistance characteristics. In this study, we controlled factors such as the size of silica nanoparticles, solvent, and concentration. The successful outcome of our study was evident in the excellent hydrophobic properties achieved, as demonstrated by the measured water contact angle.
