Body-mediated Bioelectronics without Battery, Wiring, and even Generator: Application of Biocompatible and Conductive Polymers

Wearable technologies face challenges in sustainable power sources. Existing energy generation methods have limitations, such as location dependence or wiring. To address this, researchers propose using the human body as a medium for energy transmission. However, physiological effects on tissues are overlooked. In this study, we validate body-mediated energy harvesting's positive physiological effects through pre-clinical and clinical protocols (wound healing, hair regeneration, fatigue reduction). We design electrode grounds for practical applications, enabling adjustable electric fields. In addition, electrical energy generated outside the skin powers small electronics. Finally, optimized bioelectrode were implemented through ion-diffusive hydrogel. This body-mediated bioelectronic releases drugs and stimulates tissues without battery, wiring, and generator. These findings highlight the potential of body-mediated energy transfer for comfortable and sustainable wearable technologies.
