Self-assembly Assisted Fabrications of Chiral Plasmonic Nano-wrinkle Patterns and their Enantio-selective Interactions

Chiral plasmonic nanomaterials possess mirror-symmetry in shapes, leading to different preferences to circularly polarized lights. Due to the unique structural and optical properties of chiral plasmonic nanomaterials, they have drawn significant attentions in various fields such as nanomedicines, optoelectronic devices, and biosensors. However, their fabrication methods reported before have limitations with high costs and constraints on material selection. Here, we present a facile fabrication of chiral plasmonic nanopatterns by self-assembly methods. First, chiral nano-wrinkle templates are prepared by biaxial and asymmetric buckling processes with elastic substrates. Then, plasmonic nanomaterials are coated on the chiral templates by Layer-by-Layer self-assembly methods or vapor depositions. Their chiroptical responses show selective interactions with bio-derivative enantiomers, which could potentially be used as chiral biosensors and enantio-separations.
