1-Nitropyrene (1-NP), an important nitro-PAH and a major constituent in diesel exhaust particles (DEPs), is mutagenic and carcinogenic to humans and has been classified into group 2A by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. In this study, we examined imprinting of 1-NP in combining TiO2 gel and SiO2 gel matrices. MI thin film was fabricated on an activated quartz plates by spin coating their film-forming stock solutions with Ti(O-nBu)4 and C6H5Si(OCH3)3 in toluene/ethanol (1:1, v/v). Incorporation of the template molecules and their removal were confirmed by UV-vis absorption spectra measurements. After template removal, the resultant template-imprinted films showed good recognition towards their template molecules over the non-imprinted films.
