Degradable polymers have been developed via metathesis polymerizations such as ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and cascade enyne metathesis polymerization. Our new photo-degradable polymers were reported via ROMP from newly designed monomers, which have well-established ortho-nitrobenzyl ester (o-NBE)-containing cyclic structures. Polymer was synthesized at room temperature in high yield, and the obtained polymer was degraded under the presence of UVA light. Chiral degradable polymers have been developed via cascade enyne metathesis polymerization from optically pure N,O-acetal containing enyne monomers. Chiral enyne monomers were prepared by Pd-catalyzed asymmetric hydroamination of alkoxyallenes from propargyl amine. Each of chiral monomer provided the corresponding chiral polymer, and copolymer was successfully obtained with the living characteristics. The degradation of the resulting polymer was studied in various acidic conditions.
