Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have drawn enormous attention for the replacement of conventional silicon solar cells. They typically adopt the sandwich type device architecture, containing selective interlayers for the efficient extraction and collection of photon-generated charge carriers. However, currently used hole transport materials (HTMs) for PSCs have required external ionic dopants, facilitating the device degradation during the operation. Therefore, the development of dopant-free HTMs has become an important issue for achieving highly efficient and stable PSCs. Here, we prepared dopant-free HTMs with ethylene glycol-based functional groups and investigated the effects of ethylene glycol groups on the device performances of PSCs. We also demonstrated that the amount of ethylene glycol groups is a critical factor determining the charge transport/extraction abilities of dopant-free HTMs for PSC applications.
