Pyrrolo-Thiadiazolo Indole-Based Block Copolymer Acceptor Applicable to Indoor and Outdoor All-Polymer Solar Cells

Recently, new type of polymer acceptors has been developed by polymerization of the state-of-the-art Y6 small molecule acceptor, boosting the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs) to above 17%. However, most Y6-based all-PSC has been predominantly focused on outdoor application due to the strong absorption in the long wavelength region of these polymers. Hence, in this work, a new block copolymer acceptor, b-PYT, has been synthesised by incorporating medium band gap segments into Y6-based polymer. This strategy resulted in the significant broadening and enhancement of the absorption spectra of the block copolymer, especially in the visible region. As a result, all-PSC devices based on b-PYT achieved a good PCE of 11.49% under AM1.5G illumination together with an impressive PCE of 13.44% under 1000 lux white LED light. This work demonstrates a new strategy for the design of dual function all-PSC for both indoor and outdoor applications.
