Mechanochromic polymers are widely researched for their ability to change color in response to external mechanical stimuli. By incorporating the color transition property of polydiacetylene (PDA) into a polymer, a novel form of mechanochromic polymer was devised. Diacetylene and poly(dimethylsiloxane) were connected to methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) through urethane and urea bonding, resulting in the formation of a copolymer. The formation of the copolymer was confirmed using NMR, FT-IR, and GPC analysis. Additionally, the thermal properties of the polymer were investigated using TGA, DSC, and DMA techniques. The mechanochromic property of the color transition from blue to purple, red under elongation was confirmed by extracting colors from images and plotting them on a CIE 1931 graph.
