Borane-Catalyzed Postpolymerization Deoxygenation to Functional Polyolefins

Postpolymerization modification offers an intriguing route to synthesizing polymers that cannot be attained by direct polymerization of monomers. Here we discuss borane-catalyzed hydrosilylative deoxygenation of polyacrylate that can produce functional polypropylenes by controlling the degree of deoxygenation. Kinetic aspects of the reaction will be discussed in detail to unravel the dependence of the reaction on the molecular weight of the polyacrylate substrate.
