Endorsed by the well-known concept of ‘Click’ chemistry, thiol-based reactions comprising the thiol-ene were highlighted to possess the desirable ‘click’ characteristics. While the majority of the thiol-ene studies pursue photo-initiated pathways, thermal polymerizations under different curing conditions will be investigated in this research. To begin with, a series of liquid crystalline diallyl ethers as monomers based on different aliphatic spacers was successfully synthesized from biphenol as a mesogenic ingredient. The monomer characterization was performed by 1H-NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and polarized optical microscopy (POM). Ultimately, two systems of mesogenic dienes and either bi-functional or tetra-functional thiols were thermally polymerized with the aim of tailoring auspicious thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers respectively.
