The formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is crucial for enhancing the safety and cycle performance of Lithium metal batteries. The key to achieving this lies in establishing a uniform and efficient Li+ behavior at the anode interface. However, due to the highly reactive nature of Li metal, controlling the movement of Li+ in the anode/electrolyte interface during cycling remains a challenge. In this study, we propose an advanced approach for generating a stable SEI layer by employing a fluorinated self-assembled monolayer (F-SAM) treated separator. By leveraging the strong affinity between the fluorine functional group and Li+, we facilitate the rapid formation of a LiF-rich SEI layer, known as a stable SEI component, in the early cycling stage. Furthermore, we comprehensively verified the mechanism for generating stable SEI by controlling the Li+ dynamics through F-SAM treated separator.
