Block Copolymer-based Nanostructured Carbon Substrate for Anchoring Pt-Single Atom as Highly Efficient Electrocatalysts

We have fabricated a three-dimensional hierarchical porous carbon (3D-HPC) substrate from poly(butyl acrylate)-b-polyacrylonitrile (PBA-b-PAN) block-copolymer, which contain interconnected mesopores/micropores and N-heteroatom. This distinct feature helps to disperse Pt single atom uniformly all over the matrix. The as-prepared Pt-single atom at 3D-HPC (Pt1-3D-HPC) displays exceptional catalytic properties towards oxygen and tri-iodide reduction reaction. The Pt1-3D-HPC electrode exhibit low charge transfer resistance and enhanced power conversion efficiency as counter electrode compared to reference electrode (Pt). Also, Pt1-3D-HPC electrode exhibit the improved catalytic performance towards oxygen reduction reaction, with higher Eonset (1.11 V), E1/2 (0.89 V) and diffusion limiting current compared to reference 20% Pt/C electrode (Eonset,1.05 V and E1/2, 0.89 V).
